Gear

Tier Sets

In the awakened season we keep our tier set from the season 3 raid Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope. This tier set grants the following bonuses when wearing 2 and 4 pieces of the armor set:

  • 2-Piece: Smite and Penance damage increased by 20% and Smite extends the duration of an active Atonement by 2.0 sec.
  • 4-Piece: Smite has a 100% chance to cast an additional time during Shadow Covenant, dealing (80% of Spell power) Shadow damage.

First lets talk a bit about the 2-piece bonus for this tier set. This bonus is a rather simple damage buff to 2 of your main discipline abilities that have in the past tiers felt a bit neglected, this tier set, along with the spec talent changes, makes both smite and penance a lot more attractive to press, and a large majority of your atonement healing will now come through these 2 abilities.

Now on to the 4-piece bonus. This bonus also reads rather simple, but it forces Discipline Priests into playing Shadow Covenant and in turn makes Shadowfiend and Mindbender stronger cooldowns as they've also lost a lot of their power in recent times, this bonus also double downs on the change the 2 piece makes, making you want to press smite in your ramps even more.

Both of these bonuses fit the Discipline rework well and are trying to push the spec in the same direction as the talent changes have.

Trinkets

With a new patch comes new trinkets to hunt down. The first two trinkets we'll talk about are your BiS for pure healing throughput. However, you won't always have your best option on hand immediately on patch launch, therefore we will also mention some alternative trinkets that are still great options to pick up, unfortunately all of the trinkets from this seasons Mythic+ dungeons are rather weak so we recommend that you aim to get a trinket from one of the raids if possible.

Rashok’s Molten Heart - This trinket comes from the boss Rashok, the Elder in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible. It was by far the strongest healer trinket throughout the entire expansion, but has seen some quite drastic nerfs and it's nowhere near as strong as it has been. That being said, it still comes out on top over other options and will remain our best trinket.

Ominous Chromatic Essence - This trinket comes from the boss The Forgotten Experiments in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible. When you get all the allied stat buffs that this trinket provides, it comes out to be our strongest trinket over all the other stat sticks. However, if you don't have any other allies that equip this trinket, it will fall behind Broodkeeper’s Promise and Pip’s Emerald Friendship Badge.

Whispering Incarnate Icon - This trinket comes from the boss Primal Council in Vault of the Incarnates. This was another healer favorite during this expansion, and this hasn't changed, as its looking to be one of the stronger stat stick trinket from all of the content that is available this patch. That being said, this trinket does get outshined by Broodkeeper’s Promise and Pip’s Emerald Friendship Badge if no one else in the raid has the trinket equipped for the additional effect, and is slightly worse than the Chromatic essence even when all buffs are factored in on both trinkets.

Broodkeeper’s Promise - This trinket comes from the boss Broodkeeper Diurna in Vault of the Incarnates, this trinket has a pretty unique effect of being able to attach to an ally to keep them extra safe, this will be our 3rd best trinket throughput wise and will feel very good to play as it provides some much needed survivability to yourself and an ally of your choice, a good target for this trinket would be any squishy ranged character in your raid like a Balance druid or a hunter.

Pip’s Emerald Friendship Badge - This trinket comes from the boss Council of Dreams in Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. This is a passive trinket that grants Critical Strike, Mastery and Versatility, it's one of Disciplines strongest options for a passive trinket, and unlike before you wont have heavy competition for this trinket as it is outshined by other options for most specs, this could make the trinket a strong temporary item early on in the season.

Ashes of the Embersoul - This trinket comes from the boss Smolderon in Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. This trinket is very strong when boss timers allow for it to be used on cooldown, but it is still a niche trinket so we won’t recommend using it in all situations.

Spoils of Neltharus - This trinket comes from the Mythic+ dungeon Neltharus, it is a very strong replacement for Ashes of the Embersoul if you’re unable to obtain it from raid and you still want to have a 2 minute on-use, it does however suffer from the same issue as ashes and will only be seen as a niche use trinket

Miniature Singing Stone - This trinket comes from the mythic+ dungeon Nokhud Offensive, and it is on paper our strongest Mythic+ trinket, but i wouldn’t recommend anyone to farm for any of the trinkets from the Mythic+ pool that is available this tier and you should try your best to get any trinkets from the raid as almost all of them drastically outperform the Mythic+ trinkets this season.

Notable Items

Seal of Filial Duty - This ring drops from the boss Broodkeeper Diurna in Vault of the Incarnates, even though it doesn't have our optimal stats on it, due to how high our stat budget will be this patch, and how far into crit and haste diminishing returns we will be, this won’t be a real issue. Some mastery is still good, and the effect on this ring is very easy to proc on Discipline and it is too powerful to pass up on.

Embellishments

With the revamped profession system in Dragonflight you’ll be able to put 2 Embellishments on your armor. These are powerful bonuses that help you out in some way shape or form, whether it be stat bonuses, random procs or quality of life changes. Here are the best embellishments for Discipline Priest:

Allied Wristguards of Time Dilation: With the nerfs in Season 3 to most other embellishments, this embellishment started to look a lot better. It provides a versatility buff to both you and your party/raid members. It does however come with the restrictions that it has to be crafted on the wrist slot and you can’t select your own stats, currently the stats on the wrists are sub-optimal for Discipline, but the effect of the item is strong enough that it shouldn't matter.

Elemental Lariat: Lariat has previously been a universally strong embellishment for most classes, but it took a large hit at the end of season 1. But with all the recent nerfs to most embellishments, this neck is now back on the table. You do not want to craft this embellishment as your first option as the stat budget on necks are really low, but it is a good item to craft a few weeks into the patch, due to the power of the embellishment effect.

Spark Crafting Priority

  1. Allied Wristguards of Time Dilation: This embellishment effect is the strongest effect you can get for yourself, and on top of that it also buffs your allies, this is for sure going to be one of your best crafts in the first weeks.
  2. Elemental Lariat: This should be your 2nd craft, but it will almost never be your first craft, as the power gain from the other craft is much larger as long as you don't have full sockets.
